Gary Hardy

Gary has over 40 years' experience in the IT industry, and is recognised globally as an expert and thought leader in IT governance, value management and performance improvement. He has held director level positions at Deloitte and Arthur Andersen, driving IT management solutions based on ITIL and COBIT. He has also directed the consulting team with one of the UK's leading IT security companies.

Gary has consulted with a wide range of companies in South Africa and overseas, and specialises in how IT can be better managed to deliver value, minimize risk and ensure alignment with real business needs. By applying pragmatic and positive approaches he helps organizations identify and implement strategies that deliver real improvements. He helps companies use COBIT and other best practices to implement better governance, management organization, and processes, as tools for identifying performance improvements. Training is offered as a part of enabling strategic change and not just to pass exams.

Gary is a great believer in sharing knowledge and not overly protecting intellectual property. He also believes that a consultant should facilitate client independence, to get the job done themselves wherever possible. The alternative is that IT consultancy just becomes an expensive contractor role with little or no adoption of the techniques.

Gary is a long standing member of ISACA, a past board member, UK chapter President, and Regional Vice President. Gary was one of three people who created COBIT in 1992 and has been a key member of ISACA's COBIT development team for the past 20 years. He was a lead developer of all the COBIT versions including COBIT5, and is author of many ISACA products. Gary has also been the architect and lead trainer of the ITpreneurs IT Governance education portfolio since 2003, delivered by ITWinners and other training companies around the world.

Gary has a BSc. (Hons) in Computer Science, and is certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT).
