Steve Messenger

Steve Messenger is the current Chairman of the Dynamic Systems Development Method Consortium (DSDM), a role that entails setting the strategy for DSDM and leading the DSDM Board of Directors. He has been involved in agile since its inception, DSDM being one of the signatories of the agile Manifesto, and has pioneered iterative approaches to software development from the mid-1990s.

As well as managing many agile projects and programmes, Steve has implemented agile into the highly regulated environment of the pharmaceutical industry, as well as within the finance, publishing, and insurance industries. Steve has also been a senior member of various management teams, setting the direction for the business, including the direction for agile. Steve has also assisted the Institute for Government in the production of the pivotal paper 'System Error - Reboot', a study into the introduction of agile in government.

More recently, Steve has been able to use his vast experience to help others. He has been invited to speak and present at a large number of industry conferences in both Europe and the USA. Steve has also published many articles, and written incisive blog entries, on the topics of agile project and programme management, as well as scaled agile. Steve was the lead author of the DSDM agile programme framework, and made valuable contributions to the DSDM agile project framework. Steve has also been the co-author of various works, such as agile Programme Management, PRINCE2 and DSDM, agile and PMBoK, and agile Project Management Office.

Steve has also co-authored papers on DSDM and PRINCE2, applying DSDM in an offshore environment, and using DSDM with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK). Accredited in project management techniques such as PRINCE2, he still firmly believes that the best training is gained through experience, and during the last 35 years he has undertaken all of the IT roles, ranging from trainee programmer through to project and programme manager for large six figure projects. Steve is also an APMG accredited trained for agile Project Management and agile Programme Management.

In his role as CEO of Herald Associates Ltd, Steve now provides training, coaching, and consultancy to large organisations, which keeps him up to date on current agile thinking, trends and problems.
